
This year, on the occasion of another anniversary of Father Jerzy’s martyrdom, his family came to Rome to meet with Leo XIV. The purpose of the trip was to present the Pope with the martyr’s relics and to request the blessing of the cornerstone for the Father Jerzy Memorial Museum being built in Okopy, the Popiełuszko family’s home village.
In addition to Father Jerzy’s brother, Józef Popiełuszko, and his two nephews, Marek (Józef’s son) and Jerzy (Stanisław’s son), the following were present: Archbishop Józef Guzdek with priests from the Białystok Archdiocese; Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship Łukasz Prokorym with members of the voivodeship board; members of the Father Jerzy Popiełuszko “Dobro” Foundation – Bogdan Romaniuk and Michał Matyskiel, mayor of Suchowola; and representatives of the Podlaskie Museum, which will oversee the Museum in Okopy; Eliza Pardyka, chairwoman of the Youth Council at the “Dobro” Foundation, and Przemysław Wrężlewicz from Rafael Publishing House also attended.
