On November 14th, a meeting with the family of Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko – Mr. Józef and Mrs. Alfreda Popiełuszko – took place at the Municipal Cultural Center in Repki.
They spoke about the kind of person Father Jerzy was – modest, calm, sensitive to the suffering of others, yet incredibly courageous and true to his values. They also recalled how they, as a family, experienced the difficult times associated with his persecution, what their daily life was like at home, and the role his parents played in shaping his character.
The audience had the opportunity to ask questions. Questions were asked about Father Jerzy’s childhood memories and the final years of his life – emotions, fears, hopes, but also how the family views the growing cult of the blessed today. The answers were full of emotion and authenticity.
The meeting was led by Paweł Kęska, a journalist and researcher at the Father Jerzy Popiełuszko Museum. Jerzy Popiełuszko, and Eliza Pardyka, representative of the Father Jerzy Youth group and chairwoman of our foundation’s youth council.
The event was attended by: Apolonia Stasiuk, Mayor of the Repki Commune; Rev. Canon Dr. Tomasz Szmurło, pastor of the Repki-Szkopy parish; Rev. Robert Nowaszewski, pastor of the Wyrozęby parish; heads of organizational units of the commune and their employees; councilors and village heads; teachers and students; residents of the commune; and guests from surrounding towns.
Contributions were also distributed at the meeting, the full cost of which will go towards the project fee for the Father Jerzy Museum in Okopy and the construction of a parking lot at the Museum. We would like to thank Patryk from the Father Jerzy Youth group, who distributed them during the meeting. Contributions are still available at the Commune Cultural Center in Repki for PLN 50. We cordially encourage you to support us.
Thank you all for attending and purchasing donations!
