In Father Jerzy’s hometown of Okopy, we commemorated the 78th anniversary of his birth. It was a special time of remembrance for this steadfast priest who devoted his entire life to serving God, people, and his homeland.
In Suchowola, flowers and candles were laid at the Father Popiełuszko monument by participants: members of his family, representatives of the state authorities, representatives of the construction of the Museum in Okopy and the Museum in Żoliborz, Father Jerzy’s Youth, and representatives of the Schools named after him throughout Poland.
During an outdoor Mass in front of the priest’s home in Okopy, we remembered not only his life but also the message he left us. After the Eucharist, there was a concert by the band “Wyrwani z Niewoli,” whose testimony and music reminded us that the path of truth and freedom is always worth taking, even though it is not easy.
We thank everyone who was with us on this special day – in body or spirit – to honor Father Jerzy’s memory.
See you next year!
